KS3 Curriculum Vision 

PE should encourage students to be confident, resilient learners who can work effectively as part of a team or independently, all while having the enthusiasm to try new and different activities with the motivation to challenge themselves mentally and physically. Students should have the opportunity to express themselves and create experiences and memories, all while preparing themselves for a healthy and active lifestyle.

In year 7 students will take part in a variety of sports and physical activities, learning the key rules and the fundamental skills required in each sporting activity. There will be a focus on developing a sporting character and how to assess their own strengths, whilst gaining an insight into the next steps of their learning journey.

 

Year 8

In year 8, students will take part in a range of sports and physical activities. Expanding on their prior knowledge of rules and responsibilites, when taking up officiating roles. Students will also develop their practical skills as performers for each sporting activity. Students will assess their own / peer strengths. The students will also identify the next steps of their learning journey.

In year 9, students will take part in a range of sports and physical activities. Expanding on their prior experiences of taking up officiating roles. Students will also continue to develop advanced practical skills as a performer for each sporting activity. Students will assess a team/group’s strengths, whilst using this information to develop tactics and strategies in order to further develop an individual’s performance.

KS4 Curriculum Vision 

In KS4 PE should holistically build upon the skills and knowledge developed during KS3. Students are to be encouraged to continue their Physical Education journey through their interests that they have developed throughout KS3. The aim is to prepare themselves for a healthy and active lifestyle, with a focus on also developing employability skills.

For Btec Sport students to build on prior knowledge and make a positive start to the Btec sport course, developing their knowledge and also their practical performance in sport, the roles of an official in sport, knowledge of components of fitness, and the ability to plan and organise when leading a session to a small

 

What your child will learn 

Year 10

Students will investigate the components of fitness and their effect on performance and how these components of fitness are tested, take part in practical sports, explore the role of officials in sport, and learn to apply methods and sporting drills to improve other participants’ sporting performance.

 

Year 11

Learners will explore the different types and provision of sport and physical activity available for different types of participants, barriers to participation, and ways to overcome these barriers to increase participation in sport and physical activity. They will also research equipment and technological advances in a chosen sport or physical activity and how to prepare our bodies for participation in sport and physical activity.

Students will be introduced to and develop an understanding of the importance of fitness and the different types of fitness for performance in sports and physical activity. They will also develop an understanding of the body and fitness testing, in preparation for the BTEC Sport examination.
