KS3 Curriculum Vision

At Key Stage 3, the Mathematics team at Mount St Joseph strive to develop an enjoyment of mathematics that allows students to investigate the world mathematically. We expect all students to become fluent in mathematics, to reason mathematically, and to solve problems. Students will make connections across mathematics through the investigation of different representations of mathematical ideas that will enable them to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

All students are provided with opportunities to:

  • Develop their calculation skills
  • Reflect on what they experience in lessons: making predictions about how changing circumstances may change the outcome, to check their predictions and to explain what and why it is happening
  • Notice relationships in mathematical concepts
  • Develop their confidence to ask why and to investigate this for themselves
  • Increase their knowledge of mathematics to understand the why
