MSJ Poetry Slam

The Year 7 MSJ Poetry Slam event.

On Monday afternoon our year 7 students gathered in the hall for the MSJ Poetry Slam. The event saw students from each form read out poems they have written, performing them for a panel of judges who chose a winner. Our judges this year included our head of English, Mrs. Young, who has a Master's in contemporary literature, and last year's student winner, A Gaskell from year 8 who read out her winning poem.

The quality of poems written, and the topics covered were something I personally wasn't expecting to hear. These were really well-thought-out and written pieces with messages that covered many subjects such as current global issues, racism, LGBTQ rights and so many more thought-provoking items. Well done to everyone who took part; you all did an amazing job and should be proud of yourselves. Congratulations to the winner T King and our runners-up (2nd place) Joyce Balde, (3rd place) Sibtain Ahmed. Thank you to Miss Benson for organising the event and Mr Neild for helping to compere the event.
